of the day, students will understand the basic language building
blocks, and be able to write simple programs. Experienced C or C++

amount of practical work producing working example programs to take
away with you. The final day introduces a number of more advanced

Introduction to Linux course for power users and administrators who
wish to learn more of the general purpose Linux utilities, and be able
to automate tasks by writing Bash shell scripts. This course not only
teaches you the utilities and programming skills, but also provides
many examples of useful shell scripts. A further important aspect is
that you will be able to readily interpret existing scripts.

install the Linux operating system on both Sparc and PC systems, and to
learn the skills necessary to successfully configure non-network system
services, and to manage the system on a day-to-day basis. It will cover
the installation of the Redhat Linux distribution, and allow the

capabilities. Notes on other versions of Linux such as SuSE are also

Linux systems. The course covers the essential elements of configuring
the network connection including routing, and installing major services

element of the course. The SAMBA PC file and printer sharing software
will also be examined. The course uses mainly the Redhat Linux
distribution, although there are some notes for other versions such as

are presented in our training centre in Harwell, Oxfordshire, or in Theale, near Reading.
(Firewall courses) Centres are fully equipped with appropriate
workstations - there's at least one workstation per person on all
courses. Course fees exclude VAT, but do include training notes for you
to take away, course lunches, teas, coffees, etc. There is free parking
at all centres, although all are easily accessible by public transport
as well. When your booking is confirmed, we will send you joining
instructions and a list of local hotels should you not wish to commute
from home.
